Microneedling is a simple, non-surgical procedure strategically designed to reduce damage to the upper layers of your skin. The minimally invasive procedure utilizes a device that looks like a large pen. The end contains a disposable cartridge with 12 extremely fine needles that penetrate the skin to a specified, tightly controlled depth. The procedure is performed in our office after application of a topical anesthetic, and produces no or very mild discomfort. The procedure creates micro-channels in the skin. This allows delivery of topically applied hydrators (like hyaluronic acid) deeper into the skin. Most importantly, as the micro-channles are repaired, healthier collagen and elastin fibers are produced. This results in improvement in fine lines and wrinkles, scars, enlarged and dilated pores, and hyperpigmentation.
The design of the device allows for use in hard to reach areas such as the neck, upper and lower lip, and around the nose and eyes. This treatment is particularly helpful in improving the appearance of acne scars, and lines on the upper and lower lip and lower cheeks.
These treatments are usually done in a series of 4-6 sessions, generally a month apart. Mild facial redness and minimal swelling may occur for 24-72 hours after the procedure. The condition of your skin will usually continue to improve for 6-12 months after a course of treatments.
