Sculptra

Sculptra is an injectable medication that is used to re-contour the face by adding volume, creating a fuller and more youthful appearance. It is composed of poly-L-lactic acid and is designed to stimulate your body’s own collagen production over a period of 1-3 months.

Collagen is a key component of your skin that provides structure, volume, and shape to your face. In your early 30’s, collagen begins to break down, which leads to the development of wrinkles, lines and folds that gradually appear and then worsen over time. Sculptra is not a filler; rather, it works over time to stimulate your own collagen production. Because the effects evolve slowly, the results are extremely natural in appearance. This product is particularly helpful for patients with sagging skin or multiple facial lines as well as for faces that have begun to “sink in” at the temples or cheeks.

When you come for a Sculptra treatment, a topical anesthetic is applied for 1 hour in the office prior to the procedure. You will be asked to massage the treated areas at home for 5 minutes, 5 times daily, for 5 days after injection. Generally, 1 to 3 treatment sessions are needed over several months, depending on the extent of volume loss in your face. The treatment sessions are separated by 4 to 8 weeks, allowing Sculptra enough time to gradually stimulate your collagen production.

Poly-L-Lactic acid (the main ingredient in Sculptra) is biocompatible, which means it will not harm your body. This material has been used for many years in dissolvable stitches and medical implants. After a Sculptra treatment, you may experience mild bruising, swelling, and tenderness for a day or two.

And now for the best news: Sculptra’s effects last up to 2 or more years after injection.
