Fillers

Juvaderm XC Ultra, Juvaderm XC Ultra Plus, Belotero, Restylane, Restylane Contour, Voluma, Volbella, and RHA-2, -3, and -4 are dermal fillers composed of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural component of your skin. Fillers can be injected into fine-lines, deep wrinkles and folds, and some acne scars to diminish their appearance.

As we age, time, sunlight, and environmental insults can reduce the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin. This lack of hyaluronic acid, along with a decrease in collagen, causes your skin to lose structure and volume. The result is the development of persistent, unwanted wrinkles and folds. Juvaderm and Restylane replace the hyaluronic acid that your skin has lost, adding volume to smooth lines.

These fillers are used in lines that are present when your face is in a relaxed position. The most frequent areas for use are the nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the sides of the nose to the mouth) and for marionette lines (those that run from the sides of the mouth downward on the chin).  Fillers can also smooth lines that persist between the eyebrows after Botox.  They are also very effective in enhancing the contour and shape of the lips, and softening the lines around the mouth. In addition, they can be used to augment the “apples” of the cheeks, to fill in the tear troughs under the eyes (and thereby also diminish the appearance of dark circles), to smooth the back of the hands, and even to plump up earlobes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can last up to one year after a single treatment.

These products are now formulated with lidocaine, which is a common anesthetic, to provide a more comfortable injection experience before and after treatment. Usually, a topically applied anesthetic is also applied for 30 minutes in the office prior to the procedure to further increase your comfort level.

There is no downtime associated with this procedure and you can return to your normal activities immediately.  As with any injectable, bruising can occur rarely, as can transient redness or swelling.  Improvement is apparent at once after the treatment with the maximum effect seen after about one week.

In addition, we use the fillers Radiesse and Sculptra to add volume in areas of volume loss.
